Being a generic poor student, my last couple of years at uni lead me to use some of my "talents and experience"tm to make a little extra scratch. I started by repairing a few of my friends (and their SO's) Iphones. After doing a few at cost I started to notice that so many people wanted it done, I decided to start making a little profit for my troubles. I created a basic static website and email server on a Raspberry Pi and told people to tell their friends.
After a while of doing this I built up an inventory of the most common parts. I branched out into other Apple products and even other smartphone brands. People tended to come to me because I was friendly, trustworthy (:P I have no idea why) and (being in the heart of the student village) Local . I also found a fair amount of niche market value in modifications. This included switching out backplates for transparent ones and making the Apple logo light up. This business was fun and profitable. More importantly, it gave me a perspective on how business work. Even on a very small scale, many an hour was put into thinking about how to expand, reach new clients and garner a reputation of trust and reliability. I found that very valuable
